The second quarter of 2023 saw notable performances from the top travel and local apps in South Africa. Using data from Sensor Tower, we analyze the weekly trends in downloads, active users, and revenue for the top 5 apps on the unified platform.

Booking.com: Hotels & Travel maintained a consistent presence in the market. Weekly downloads hovered around 14K to 16K, peaking at 16.4K in the final week of June. Active users also showed a steady rise, increasing from approximately 262K at the end of March to 275K by the end of June.

FlySafair experienced significant fluctuations in downloads, with a notable spike to 71.9K during the first week of May. Active users mirrored this trend, reaching a high of 95.9K in the same week before stabilizing around 41K by the end of June.

Google Maps saw a substantial boost in downloads, particularly in early June when they surged to 24K. Active users remained robust, starting at approximately 715K in late March and fluctuating slightly before ending at 686K in June.
